The Treasury (Al-Khazneh Pharon) is one of Petra's best preserved and most impressive temple facades. Unfortunately the entrance is barred so I can't go inside and reenact my Indiana Jones scene - Indy. Son. Let go. Haha.
Twilight shot when there was barely anyone around which was unusual for Petra. We were there right at the start of the tourist season so we pretty much had the place to ourselves
The lower tier consists of six huge Corinthian columns with pairs of griffins each flanking a vase with plant tendrils.
The upper tier consists of two side pavillions and a central tholos (small circular shrine). Local legends told that the urn on top of the tholos was filled with gold. As a result, the urn has been shot at countless of times over the centuries by hopeful treasure hunters. Very Indy!
From the Treasury, we walked along the Outer Siq towards the Theater.
The Bedouin dude in black could speak fluent Cantonese!! He lived in Hong Kong for years.
There were souvenir stalls everywhere, even right on top of the mountains... haha. This one had a cute name.
The Street of Facades consists of more than 40 tombs/dwellings with their facades carved into the cliffs on four levels or 'streets'.
Right next to the Street of Facades is the Theater.
Just another Roman amphitheater. Yawn.
