Definition of A Grown-Up

For those of you who don't know, Dad is a lawyer. When we were younger, we used to love going to his office to muck around. From walking past the busy grocery shop downstairs with the strong exotic smell of fresh coffee being ground up to venturing up the scary dark staircase that led to Dad's office, everything seemed like such an adventure.

Dad's office was the epitome of grown-upness (it's a word!) with the stacks of papers and Dad's special way of filing (triangle of yellow paper clipped to the corner so that the agreements don't crease) and Dad's funny wig and robes (No he does not have a dress up fetish.. it's for court appearances, ok?!). Come Christmas time, there were always stacks of diaries and desk planners for the new year gifted to him from the likes of American Express and what not. He would always give them to us for use and we would feel very grown-up and self-important because of it.

Well looksie here... Hello, world. I am officially a grown-up. Voila, gift from one of our suppliers.

Take That, Stupid Metabolism That Slows Down After The Big 3-0!

Hohoho I'm 51.7 kgs after a weekend of pigout in Wellington! Status quo was 53 kgs. Just had to brag... must have been the icy cold Welly wind... the old body had to work extra hard to warm up. Hmmm that's a good thing....

Ok i've decided now that my next target is to buy a house by the end of the year. So I can stop being a baby and be an adult like the rest of the world. Ha! Wish me luck. I like being a baby.

Life as an Unemployed Person

My daily schedule when I am at home at the moment is as such:

8.30 ish (more like 9 am) Wake up
9 am to 9.30 am Get ready using super human speed - face/hair/get dressed/check emails and/or blogs
9.30 to 9.40 am Drop Dad off at his office.
9.40 to 10.30 am Go have breakfast some where with Mum.
10.30 to 10.40 am Drive home for toilet stop. Yes Sibu is THAT small.
10.40 am to 12 pm Drive around Sibu's crazy one way traffic system. It's ridiculous how many detours you have to make to get from A to B when B is just directly opposite A. Work out what to buy Dad for his lunch as well as our snacks as Mum and I don't have lunch. Go buy said lunch and snacks.
12 pm to 12.10 pm Pick up Dad and go home.
12.10 to 6 pm Watch tv with Mum/Snack/Go out to the malls/Snack/Update blog/Snack/Surf the net
6 pm to 7 pm Dinner
7 pm onwards Watch tv with Mum while Dad is upstairs doing mysterious manly chores/Snack/Update blog/Snack/Surf the net.
12 am Sleep

Yes, it is indeed a hard life. But I think I am up to the challenge. heheh

The Cheek of Some People!!!!

Unless you've been hiding under a rock for the last 5 years, you would know that you can get really cheap (pirated) CDs and DVDs throughout Asia. In Sibu, they cost about RM$5 (NZD$3) each. These pirated DVDs retailers are everywhere and the merchandise are displayed blatantly. There's no need for a suspicious man in trenchcoat to come up to you and flash you. In this case instead of being greeted by dodgy male parts which resulted in you running away screaming and/or pointing and laughing, you are greeted by replica watches hanging off the inside trenchcoat which resulted in you pointing and laughing (with joy. Score!).

But THIS is just cheeky:

Looks normal, right? Take a closer look:
Not only did they rip Jay Chou off, the pirated CD had this message on the back. Copting?? If you are going to copy the whole thing, at least copy it word for word, ok?

This is cheeky too. Duplication is a violation of applicable law. All trademarks and logos are protected????? Apparently not. Tsk tsk tsk.

Don't judge me for buying pirated goods. I'm a poor, unemployed (amoral) accountant with five mouths to feed, ok? Ok, just one but feels like five most days.

Thankful

Before I forget, I just wanted to say that I was very grateful for the way things turned out on this trip. I remembered praying to God before hopping on the plane from Sibu to KL, asking for the Bangkok airport to be open so that we could get there (so that I can shop). I also remembered being slightly disappointed when we realised that we definitely won't be able to go. At that stage we didn't realise how serious things were. We thought it was just a peaceful demonstration and everyone was just inconvenienced. Obviously hindsight is twenty twenty and we all now know that things turned violent very quickly. Anyway, this experience taught me that sometimes, prayers go unanswered for a reason that we may not understand at the time and all we can do is to go with the flow and put our faith in Him. Sermon over, class dismissed.
