Dinner with ex-Work Mates

I met up with the ladies from my old work and we had a good girls' night out, gossiping and eating good food. I can't remember clearly now but i think the restaurant was called The Villager or something. Only thing I distinctly remembered was that it was dead for a Thursday night and i thought to myself that it would not be the case in London. The place would have been pumping.

Marion and my choice - beef wrapped with bacon, red wine reduction bla bla bla... Good!

 Back view.

It came with a side of potatoes that had been cooked with duck fat (!!!!!!!) and veges...

Sarah's roast pork....

Renuka had the lamb....

We got the waitress to take a couple of photos of us.

Chopper Ride December 2011

I was lucky enough to go on a 40 minute helicopter ride with our American visitors at work last week. It was an awesome day in Auckland so the timing was perfect. The trip out to the helipad was a bit stressful due to the heavy Friday traffic but we were only 5 minutes late which was a miracle. Totally enjoyed it and like I always said, nothing beats Auckland on a gorgeous sunny day. I LOVE SUMMER!!

Last Day At Work!!

Two months flew by with superman-like speed. Before I knew it, it's time to bid adieu to all the lovely ladies I've been working with. My boss here took us out for a coffee yesterday to say farewell and we ended up having a drink at the Westin too. I'm such a lightweight I was feeling light-headed after ONE drink!! How useless is that? In my defence, I had an empty stomach and I haven't had a drink in aagges. Cocktail season is upon us though.

Anyway I did my usual and baked some cupcakes for the ladies here. Look how preeettty they are! The cupcake stand always bring the looks up a notch... even if it is a handicapped one. If you look carefully, you can see that it's propped up by yellow pages in the back. Heh! I got it from Monica for Christmas one year and broke one of the legs the first time I used it. It was a bit uneven so I tried to bend it a little bit... unsuccessfully. I do not know my own strength!

So I'm outta here and this time tomorrow, I will be in Melbourne enjoying all the cuddles and kisses from Lauren... or shrieks and tears. One or the other.

First Day Back in The Workforce

First day back at work and it felt like first day at school! I had my brand spanking new uniform (aka one of the suits that I buried deep inside my wardrobe when I left the CA world and its strict dress code behind and said Helloooo sweet sweet jeans in the more informal corporate setting) all ready to go and made my lunch last night. One might suggest that I look forward to the whole lunch packing process which involved going to the supermarket and buying all kinds of multipack treats to put in said lunchbox more than the job itself. One would be right!

Anyway I planned the whole Get-D-back-to-work Operation down to a T and arrived with plenty of time to spare at the carpark. So I had time to park Sam in a spot that I deemed safe (aka with as many sides protected from other irresponsible drivers who might haphazardly open their car doors and touch Sam in the process!!). I present to you: SAM!!

So the carpark is 4 storeys high and about 3 blocks away from the office. There is a closer carpark but it's 3 bucks more expensive per day. Being the tight beancounter that I am, I am going to park at this cheaper option everyday. I have to cross 7 traffic lights to get to the office from the carpark. I kid you not. Downtown traffic!

It figured that the day I started work would be gorgeous. Typical! I work in the building just in front of the clock tower. I've always wanted to work in the Viaduct area so this is pretty cool. But I don't really like working in town with all the logistics issues so 7 weeks working here should be just about long enough. I also figured that the daily to and fro between the carpark and the office should trim me down for the summer. Yahooooo! One can hope anyway!

I figured my first proper day at work after 10 months of holiday is probably going to be painful. So I wisely armed myself with a giant bag of food supplies for the day - nectarine, mandarin, muesli bar, fruit bar, carbonara for lunch and a big can of V. But it turned out that I only had time for the muesli bar as I spent most of the day at someone else's desk being trained up for the role I am covering and I was invited out to lunch with the girls.

We went across the road to Westin for lunch. It's the newest hotel in Auckland and it sure is puuureeeetty.

Entrance of the restaurant:

The dining area is sectioned off by these ceiling to floor curtains made of chains:

Everyone ordered the lunch special - Q Box. As explained to me by my co-worker, it's kinda like japanese bento boxes but fine dining style. So for $18, you get an entree, a veges dish, a mains and a dessert. We all chose angus scotch fillet for the main.

Entree was a big fat juicy scallop wrapped with bacon in a creamy sauce:

Side of steamed asian greens, broccoli and beans:

Tender medium-rare steak with a teeny tiny carrot as garnish and a wonton stuffed with something that tasted like meat but may have been finely diced mushroom?!:

Dessert was a chocolate tart:

The portions were perfect!! I was neither hungry nor full by the end of it. Just perfect.

Then I dragged myself back to work and it was pretty uneventful after that. I didn't even finish off my big can of V. Save it for tomorrow.

Welcome back to the real world to me!

Hot Off The Press!!

********************** BREAKING NEWS********************

I got a job!!!
Well for seven weeks anyway... I will be contracting at a law firm in town. I'll be covering for the accountant there while she goes on a month long holiday gallivanting around Europe! Can I swap places with her instead????

So yes, I will have to get up at 7 am every morning instead of going to bed at 7 am and I will have to use a calculator instead of a remote control. Eeeeeekk reality bites!! On top of that I will have to wear stockings everyday and look respectable instead of the punk rock look I've been rocking! Salt on wound.. ouchie!!

Random Stuff

Frozen Coke and frozen coke junior from Mackers...

Like I said, I'm every advertiser's dream... so of course I had to get the mini board games that Mackers was selling for $1.50 a pop - Monopoly and Trivial Pursuit. It was pretty budget inside but oh well.....

My ex-boss took pity on me and asked me back to do some work this past week... First day back was TOUGH!!! I went home with a huge migraine and retired to bed at 7 pm like an invalid... it's hard going doing an honest day's work, I tell ya. Second day was a lot better.... It didn't take long for me to make myself at home again and put some homely touches to my work area... i.e. lots of food around me and lots of loose papers... Welcome home!

Felicia took pity on my sorry a$$ and made me a cup of hot chocolate to perk me up... check out the fern froth... she's pretty good, huh?

Mum and Dad arrived in NZ last week for a 3 week visit and it was very good timing because she was able to go to the Shiseido sale for once... Works for me since that means I don't have to run around like a headless chook grabbing anything and everything that she *might* want. Lots of ladies around eager to score some bargains... Check out the little girl engrossed in playing with a plastic bag in the middle of sale madness.... Forgot to take a pic of Mum's shiseido loot.

Workmate also alerted us to the annual haircare sale near work... so we all rushed there during lunch hour. I think I bought enough to last for 2 years and it costed me a fraction of what it would have costed me if I bought retail... yay, I love sales!

Mum has been busy fattening us up of course... She made us siew york (chinese roast pork) twice already... Check out the two nipples on the meat... heheh

Steaming hot and crunchy! YUM!

Last Day At Work

Finally the day has come! And I realised a few things:
1. I am going to miss the place and the people.
2. EVERYONE knows that I have a heels obsession, judging by the quantity of heels related gifts I got from people.

I am very humbled by the love and thoughtfulness that everyone showered on me today! Mental note to self: Need to resign more often.
