Sydney - Trip 2 & 3

Jet setting every week for work sounded glamorous to start off with but got old so very very quickly. Another week, another dreary trip to Sydney. Followed by a 24 hour turnaround back to Sydney.
McDonalds were advertising their latest Kiwiana fares so OBVIOUSLY I had to try it. Apple crumble with soft serve. It was alright. I only had half of this because I secretly was going to get the latest offering from Burger King once I got through customs - hot chocolate pudding!! But alas, the BK inside did not have it. Drats!

Got to Sydney around 6 pm on the Thursday night as I had meetings on Friday and headed straight for Pitt St Mall after I checked in. I was given the exact same room I was in 2 weeks ago. It was like coming home, in a sad way.

I headed to Becasse for a little pick me up. Everything screamed "Pick me, Pick me".

In the end I went for the Caramel and Banana Praline concoction on the left. Why is there another pastry on the right you ask? It was close to closing time so the lady that served me, aka my best bud in the whole wide world for that night, gave me a freebie. Wohoo yes to Pistachio cake thingy. Yes they were both delicious and yes, I scoffed them all down.

Hopped on a train and went off to Chatswood on the Saturday. Primarily, I went there to try out ZenQ. My love for sweets sure is strong!

Much like Meet Fresh in the city but it has a few additional ingredients such as the taro sorbet thingy that you see towards the right hand side of the bowl.

So puuurrreeetty and refreshing.

I can't be bothered giving a chronological day by day commentary of my trips so from here onwards, it will be mostly just photos doing the talking of my gluttony.

Snag & Stand - Gourmet Sausages

Kransky from the above and Truffle and Parmesan Fries from Charlie & Co.

Miss Chu, self-proclaimed Queen of Rice Paper Rolls, in Paddington - again, I walked for blocks to get to this place.

Back of the menu:

Lychee and Mint granita - sooooooo good!

Tiger prawn and green mango rolls - love the sauce bottle!

Roast duck and banana flower rolls:

Innards of the roast duck roll:

Ditto re the prawn roll. Don't know about Queen of them, but the rolls sure were good.

Towards the end of the trip, I was over it - even food!! Gasp. I got room service one night.

One Door Closes, Another Door Opens

Got rid of my old precious (see previous post re tattered rugby jumper) and acquired a new precious in Hong Kong. Say hi to Chanel 2.55 Reissue in Bleu Fonce.

Bye, Old Friend

I've been wearing this jumper which I inherited from Monica and Melinda as bedwear for at least ten years now. It has doubled in size and length over the years and acquired so many holes that it no longer provides any warmth whatsoever. Whenever i wear it, i need at least 2 other layers to keep warm. It was getting slightly ridiculous so I had to force myself to get rid of it despite the memories it holds for me. Sniff sniff, buh bye old friend. You have served me well and you will be missed.

Sydney Part III - The Gluttony Continues..

Went to a boutique brewery pub with work people one night and they were offering a mini degustation in honour of Oktoberfest.

Last weekend in Sydney before I head back to Auckland so I headed off to my usual hangout place aka free WIFI in Westfield Pitt St!! Din Tai Fung had an outlet here too.

But I only had eyes for Charlie & Co, Justin North's burger restaurant.

The menu has the look of a newspaper.

Helloooo Wagyu Beef burger.

Juicy.

Next up, dessert at Meet Fresh (again).

Loads of people were queuing up for it too.

Waiting for the buzzer to go off:

Dessert at "home":

Next day, I caught up with my mate from high school, Lee Wee and his wife. We went off to Bills at Surry Hills. We saw Carrey Mulligan while waiting for a table!! She is teeny tiny and gorgeous.

Bills is exactly as I remembered it from my last visit a few years ago. It was packed to the gills and we were seated at the long communal table.

Zucchini fries

LW's wife got the famous corn fritters:

LW got the big breakfast:

It was gonna be a long day food-wise so I got the scrambled eggs. It may sound healthy but don't be fooled. Bills' scrambled eggs are made with CREAM! So good, so creamy.

Next up, we hit up Adriano Zumbo!!!!! *swoon*

The kitchen was still busy even though we were there quite late in the day. Check out the macaron tower ready to be boxed.

I got the citron tart for myself and a dozen macarons for Viv. Nice but much like other citron tarts I've had to be honest. He's opened up a dessert-train restaurant (like sushi-train) so I gotta try it out if I go to Sydney again.

I was so stuffed that dinner was just something easy and not worth taking any photos of. Jumping on the plane back to Auckland on Sunday but not before one last visit to Mama Chu for breakkie.

Soyabean milk. pork floss flaky bread, beef noodles, char siew bun, sour veges.

Seafood congee.

D&M Convo with A 5 Year Old

Me: My top 5 favourite chinese dishes are Sweet n Sour Pork, Water Spinach with Preserved eggs, tofu, fried rice and ummmmmmm peking duck.

Lauren looks at me quizzically and then said: My favourites are sweet n sour pork, kompia, lollies, biscuits...

Me: Oh are we including lollies? In that case, lollies, cakes, biscuits, chocolates......

Haha... tres adorable. Lauren is ok too.
