Arrived in Hong Kong around 8 and we were starving by the time we finished checking in. Went downstairs to the Temple Market and ate at a roadside stall. Too hungry and forgot to take pics. I had curry beef brisket rice and Viv had chicken mushroom claypot. Mmmm rice.
Then it was straight onto dessert. This was a very traditional dessert place and the prices reflected it too. Around HKD15 for each dessert compared to around HKD25 at the chainstore dessert places. Quite quaint.
Viv had the black sesame soup with glutinuous dumplings. Very rich.
I had the tau fu far (sweet tofu) with fresh mango. Yum yum... but too full so didn't finish it. Then it was back to the hotel for some ZZZzzzzzzZZZzzz.
1st day in HK - we wandered up and down the backstreets of Nathan Road to find a nice authentic non-dodgy place to have breakfast. We ended up at this place for yum cha. Very noisy, very Hong Kong, very cheap. I think it was NZD5 for each of us.
The usual yum cha suspects - feng chau (chicken feet), har gau (shrimp dumplings), siew mai (pork dumplings), char siew bau (bbq pork buns, not shown), beef balls (not shown) and nai wong bau (custard buns, not shown).
Lunch was dessert hehe at Hui Lau Shan - a very popular, at-every-street-corner dessert joint.
The menu
The mango platter - HKD35 with (clockwise from top) Mango filled dumpling with fresh mango slices, mango pudding with fresh mango and fresh mango in mango juice with dumplings.
Mango pudding with mango icecream and fresh mango.
Late lunch around 4pm at some char chang teng (HK cafe).

Late supper at a themed restaurant - Modern Toilet where everything was toilet related. It's owned by Viv's friend. A tad overpriced I think because the food was a bit blah.
Hand basin table with a toilet as seat. The cover does open up and you can pop your handbag inside for safe keeping.

Another seating area which has a bathroom theme with bathtubs as tables and shower heards on the walls. Check out the poo shaped light shades.
Food comes in toilet shaped bowls. This was some kind of beef dish.
This was a seafood dish with a miso base. Not that great.
Breakfast on Day 2 was at a Cha Chang Teng next to our MTR station.
This was a breakfast combo - milk tea, wontons and fried egg & ham. Tasted as appetising as it looked. At least it was dirt cheap.
