Sibu: Day 21

I wanted to have bak kut teh (pork leg soup with rice) and I wanted to make Ah Here seethe with jealousy so I told Mum to take me to the cafe that Ah Here ALWAYS has to visit if she is in town.. allegedly because that's what she told the boss when she flirted with him but it was news to me at that time. We found a park and walked there... only to find it no longer there. So we went to the other place instead.

 Not that nice.

Dinner was at Hock Chu Leu where Mum and Dad had their wedding reception (5 tables).

Sea cucumber soup - nice and sour.

Braised wong bok cabbage with mushrooms - a Hock Chu Leu specialty

Nice sweet and sour fish

Mum ordered a woh neh meaning the bird's nest taro with mixed veges inside. The waitress nodded and immediately asked if we wanted fruits. I suspected she meant the sweet woh neh but Mum waved my objections aside. Oh well, I don't mind. More woh neh for me! Look at all the oil pooling at the edges.

Gulp... one third goneski.

Siu mai

Because the woh neh turned out differently to what Mum expected, she then ordered another dish - fried noodles. Twas madness, yet somehow normal for us. Heheheheh.

After all that heavy eating, I was in desperate need of a walk so we walked to the nearby Pasar Malam Night Market.

Typical presentation of beverages for sale in Malaysia

Mum immediately had to buy Lauren some pink undies.

I can't believe we used to shop for clothes at the markets.......

Thick version of the crispy peanut pancakes that Mei likes

New product I noticed - HUGE version of the crispy peanut pancakes

 Compare to the water bottles.

Banana fritters and other deep fried snacks

Steamed goodies

Quite a few stalls selling these roasted meats...

Pig's head anyone?
